principle 2 - BuildPrinciple 2 - Build

This principle relates to technology choices for the site along with architecture and the techniques in building are executed to, for example, deliver cross-platform compatibility and search engine friendly sites.

For the technically faint-hearted, build principle considerations need not be a major concern of the client as this is the developer's role.

A website correctly designed & structurally built along with considerations for compliance and accessibility in place, will not just attract visitors but it's also beneficial in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) terms - in the aim of listing your website at the top of the search engine results (read more on ' A List Apart ' link to an external site).

' Static ' build considerations

' web application ' considerations

  • Making the right technology choices - ensuring that the functions/web controls*  you want are provided with the chosen technology;
  • Good database architecture;
  • Application performance;
  • Application security;
  • Search engine friendly;
  • Bandwidth and storage;
  • more

* Microsoft's newest web language - ASP.NET 2.0 - brings a wealth of web controls to provide the options available to IT Directors but also to aide the development.
