Web Applications

The evolution of the web, technologies and the tools available, along with demand - the explosion of online users - has shifted the way we do business. Building web-based applications over Windows-based applications for a wealth of requirements is preferred.

Companies require software to ease its own processes and costs but now also requires web applications to meet an online presence so the latest information can be viewed online but also to make sales.

Benefits of choosing a web-based application

  • Up-to-date information is immediately available;
  • Software is located and updated in one place - no need to distribute software and updates to potentially thousands of computers;
  • Available anywhere, anytime;
  • Costs are reduced because of maintaining a single application, locally;
  • Built correctly, web applications operate on multiple systems without difficulty;
  • Security is now available online.

What technology to use

My choice - and my exposure of working in corporation using it - has been, and stays with, Microsoft.

November 2005 Microsoft increased the states further and launched its latest, and best yet suite of technologies under the umbrella of the .NET 2.0 framework. This framework allows for the development of various types of applications for the web, along with apps for Windows and mobile - with increasing ease. It also provides even more facilities for better end-product applications.

The core component / language for building web-based applications is ' ASP.NET 2.0 '. Using this along with other Microsoft technologies such as Visual Basic 8, SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 allows for the build of powerful enterprise web applications, more easily and utalises the full breadth of the Windows system.
